Friendship can be defined as a relationship between people who care about each other. As the play begins, Macbeth and Banquo are bestfriends and comrades in arms, both Scottish noblemen and valiant defenders of King Duncan. Macbeth and Banquo together encounter the three witches on the Heath after a fierce battle where they hear the prophecy for the first time . Banquo reacts as a good friend would at the sound of Macbeth’s good fortune, then seeks to know his own. Banquo sees the evil in the sisters and warns Macbeth but he pays no heed to the advice. When Macbeth murders Dunacan it raises Banquo’s suspicions yet he remains loyal to Macbeth. Their friendship comes to take a turn when Banquo questions Macbeth’s rise to king . Macbeth wants to keep the crown for himself and his ambition gets the best of him. He realizes that he killed Duncan so he could be king and also Banquo’s prophecy shall be fulfilled. Their friendship ceases to exist when Macbeth decides to kill Banquo and his son which is successful and also a failure. Their friendship was not as strong as we believed it to be. Qualities of a good friend is that they are loyal, trustworthy, honest and nonjudgemental all which Macbeth does not have and licks. Their honesty to each other. Macbeth is not honest to Banquo about the three witches. There are soo many things which causes disloyalty amongst friends but the one which destroys the relationship is betrayal. Macbeht betrays Banquo in the most inhumane way when he orders three murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance which he is bent on doing without even considering they were once good friends.
